What do you have for a tow vehicle? Look at the door frame on the drivers door. It will have a maximum payload rating. That is the max weight you can hold in the vehicle including all cargo and passengers, the tongue weight also counts as weight in the vehicle.
This is very helpful to know that the tongue weight counts towards the TV payload. Since the cargo capacity of the TT is only 900 lbs, I figured we might need to load some stuff into the TV too (I realize weight adds up very quickly, especially when you have kid stuff to tote along too). And I want to be sure we're being mindful of our limits so we can pack smarter.
Check payload (cargo carrying capacity) on tow vehicle. That is weight capacity you have for fuel, occupants, cargo (in the tow vehicle), weight distribution hitch, sway bar, and trailer tongue weight, combined. It does add up, very quickly.
Once loaded for camping, your trailer tongue weight should be at least 10 percent (12 percent would be better) of the trailers actual weight. That advertised 180 lb tongue weight, will be closer to 350 when loaded for camping.
You'll need to watch the weight in the trailer, also. It only has 900 lbs capacity, and, your holding tanks will take a lot of that weight capacity. Approximate weight of a gallon of water is 8.3 lbs. Filling your (37 gl) fresh water tank, will take 300 of those 900 lbs. If your black and grey tanks are full, they will take 448 lbs.
