1st tow with new TV ?

2014 f150 Xlt screw 3.5 ecoboost 5.5 bed max tow I have to pick up my new trailer Saturday manual says wait 1000 mile before towing I only have to go 30 miles truck only has 400 miles on it.....think I'll be OK? Trailer is shadow cruiser 314tsb
  • It's totally your call, but the 1000 mile deal IS for the rear gear set, so while you are basically half way there..... It's your call.... ;)

I've got a new 2013 F150 that I got just a couple of months ago and I'm at 2300 miles now.. I'll take my first tow in a week or so and the first big trip sometime in May.. It took me about a month to get 1000 miles and that was just my daily driving commute to work and some additional driving during lunch..

I don't know that I'd do it, even if only 30 miles??

Good luck with whatever you decide..

  • Don't know how much this helps but MOST previous models of Fords have required only a 500 mile differential break in period (that's what mine had). If yours says 1,000 miles it's a pretty expensive item to risk voiding your warranty by towing early though.
  • I'd just do the 30 miles home and park the trailer till there's a few more miles on the Ford. Rack & Pinion need time to wear into each other without heavy loading.
