Well that would explain a lot! Last night I looked and couldn't find those wires anywhere in the giant bundle under the step. Does yours have the brake lights hooked up? If not I don't even see any reason to go through the hassle of connecting the truck to the camper!
Brake lights are simply both turn signals on steady so no turn signals means no brakes. You should still connect the running lights since you get the required wide vehicle and height indicator lights.
