2002 Lance 1161 pictures - what can U tell me about this 1?

Hi folks I am contemplating driving 2.5 hours one way to look at this 2002 1161 and possibly buy it. I've read many forums and posts about the early Lance 1161's and am nervous about considering a purchase. But... the price seems to be right (under $5000) and I'd be OK with a good used TC even if there's a few issues that I have to overcome.

To the folks that are familiar with the 2002 1161, could you please look at these pictures and tell me what you see? Does anything stand out as an obvious issue? I did ask about the sagging slide and owner says it does sag but not a lot. The pics make it hard to really tell.

Seller said he has replaced the rotting wood skirts in the past and the TC has spent most of it's life under a canopy.

I'm awaiting the interior pics but seller says it's very clean.

  • We own a 1996 Lance camper that has not had any rotting problems or black looking caulking, even tho we live in British Columbia with lots of rain. We do not store it under cover either. Never had sagging or need to repair panels. Just sayin'.
  • I am not familur with Lances specifically but for being covered 'most of its life' must a been a while back...lot of streaking on the filon-the black could be just bad caulking thats collected dirt mold but the trim around door and between panles looks abit iffy, right rear jack doesnt look square- bubble on the nose suspect. Picture looks as if it been setting a while.

Interior pictures-will tell you if its in decent shape inside but wont tell you how much or degree of structure rot or other problems. Unfortunatly a bad indicator of overall shape, can be deceiving at best. Wonder why ladder was removed or looks like it had one?
Slide will need addressing I assume- "not alot" is that like a little dead?
Could be the steal of a lifetime- but Im not driving to look at it. If youve nothing better to do and havnt seen much else might be worth the effort to see in person. Just DO not let the fact that you drove across the state to look at it influence you-
  • First picture, left front corner just above the tan/brown pinstripe, looks like the wall is bubbled out right at the corner. Maybe some nasty delamination happening there.
Don't know what all that black stuff is along the joints on some of the other photo's, maybe mold?
  • ok well that didn't work either. I've never seen a forum that makes posting pictures so difficult. :(
  • I just resized the pics so hopefully they will show now. Isn't 480x640 restrictively small?!
