2003 duramax questions

the LB7's are a pain to get at the injector$. Stick to the later years if you have your heart set on a Duramax.
I was about to do the third set on my 2002.

Went with a Dodge/Cummins combo instead~

Thanks I did not know that, I was going to ask the dealer to perform a balance check of the injectors prior purchase. Just did not know that a smart phone could do that...wonder if thay have one for an Iphone...

You could easily get an idea of the condition of the injectors if you have an Android phone and a ELM Bluetooth adapter for the ODBII port (~$20). The Torque app for Android phones now have injector balance rates for Dmax trucks.

Great advice my friend, yep spoke to the wife this AM and she wants to wait for the 2010-13 GMC 2500HD 4x4 CC gas job. Either that or the same in the F250 platform and the 6.2 gas job. After thinking about it over night, she doesnt want the large repair bill again for the injectors if they go south. I guess the 01 scared her off good, being that the head gaskets and 2 injectors went... so keeping gas from now on....I have been happy with my current truck, this 03 kinda fell into my lap unexpectly on Sunday. The injectors were replaced by GM, and the miles were only 112K, but the dealer just would not come off the price very much, so between my wife not in agreement with the deal,and the price, I walked away.

Women also tend to be very rational people as well. Trust your wife on this one. Happy wife, happy home. My wife LOVES our gas truck. She picked it out, I said I wanted a crew cab dually, she pointed at this one and said "buy this one." And that is what I did.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with staying with a Gas truck. There does come a point where the weight of the trailer demands a diesel but that is a very substantial weight. Most modern gassers can handle a 9-15k (depends on ratings now) trailer with ease.

I test drove a new Duramax yesterday. I was impressed by the motor. Very impressed. But the Gas Dually meets my needs, and no $1300 payment every month.

women are made different than men .
at the rv show they start looking at the 21 footer and then the 23 footer and then the 26 footer , while they are PARKED .
dealers know this and will trade them up to the bigger kitchen and bigger bathtub inorder to make the sale.
the same women want to buy the softest riding pickup .
they do not make the connection that the bigger trailer requires a bigger engine, larger brakes , heavier frame in the tow vehicle .
i am married to the same gal for 45 years.
her friends love it when i say that it is as much fun to squeeze her now as it was in 1968.
i have to be a diplomat in order to get her to compromise on any major purchase .

I have an 03 and have had numerous problems with the truck. I would buy an 06 or newer if I were you. A freind of mine traded in his 03 two years ago with about the same mileage and in excellent shape, the dealership allowed him $6000 for it. (he had got his best cash price first and then showed them his trade).

The 03 was good year. It gave you the updated interior, LB7 which is easy to massage electronically for more power if your so inclined. The only downside is the injectors are harder to get at if that's needed (as are all LB7's). I had an 03 and put just under 100K on it and never had an issue with anything. Great mileage, decent power (I left it stock).

Cool to hear, I called a diesel mech friend of the family, told him about it as well. I have a friend at church that wants my truck so I could sell mine outright to him and get this truck within my price range. Was looking at the newer version of my truck to,purchase next year... But cant afford the price there asking. So I may go back to pulling with diesel again....am happy with the 6.0 gas but like I said this one has got me thinking...
