FWIW, I towed a circa 7000# trailer (8000# GVW) with a 2500 '03 (? 04?) 'burb with the 6.0. Was not, repeat, was not at all impressed with the mileage nor the high rpms that the engine had to turn. I understand that's what the engine was designed for, but I didn't like it.
As others have said, the minimal advantage for non-towing driving is outweighed by the benefits of the big block: If you need a tow vehicle, don't give up a very good one for one that is less capable.
