While the towing experience may not be as great as you have now, the GMT900 is a lot nicer vehicle to drive and live with than the GMT800. If you are towing under about 8000 pounds, the compromises may be worth it.
As for value? Gas is much cheaper than 2011 when Dad tried to sell his. Should be easier now than then. The highly sought after on here is still a small part of the market. I agree with gbopp. It's free to try a CL ad at a "high asking price".
