When I was looking for my 8.1 Burb, they were definitely hard to find, especially ones in good shape. The nicer ones were going for about $10k to $12k. After months of searching I found one out of state that fit the bill. Bought it with 104k miles for $9,700.
Sold it a year and a half later for $11,300. There was a lot if people interested in buying it - partly because I upgraded the hitch, added a brake controller, tow mirrors, etc.
Then, 1.5 years later, I bought it back from the guy I sold it to for $7,850. He didn't recognize me and pointed out all the great upgrades the PO (me) did to it haha. He said he had about five people besides me that wanted to buy it. I got a great deal considering how much other Burbs were going for (still about $10 to $12k) and he said he probably should've asked more for it...he probably would've got it. He bought a new F250 that's rated to tow the same as the Burb's 12k lbs...it definitely cost more than my Burb.
Better to have too much truck than not enough. And no payment is a huge bonus.
