2004 Ford 4R100 transmission

I'm going to add a Transmission Temperature gauge to my 4R100 transmission. The only place i can find would be in the lines to the cooler.
Does anyone know which line "front or rear" is the supply line to the cooler?
I think this would give me a truer reading.

Thanks

  • The OP has an 04 class A V-10. It would be much easier and cheaper to get an OBDII dongle and a good smart phone app. I run Dash Command and can read any parameter I would like. app was $10, 04 Ford parameter another $10 and the OBDII dongle was $17. so for $37 I have a very in depth program to read any sensor I want. I mainly watch trans temp and engine temp.
  • If your 04 is a Super Duty diesel, it is probably a 5R110, not a 4R100. I think they went to the 5R when the 6.0 debuted.
  • I used a wifi obd2 dongle and dash command app on my phone with the PID for transmission temps...should work for your truck and no tapping lines.

    Just an option.

    Thanks!
  • Sender port is in the driver side near the shift lever. That's where I installed my sender
  • I installed a Scan Guage & plugged it into the OBD II port primarily to monitor tranny temp..
  • I did some more research and found the answer the oil flows from the front outlet to the cooler to the rear of the transmission.
