I had a 2004 SCREW with a 5.4, It developed the infamous tick and the nasty rattle at start up, Took it to the dealer and they said it was cam phasers. First he tried to tell me it was the injectors, it is not direct injected. I looked into the phaser issue and some let it go with no problems but some have had phaser failure leading to costly repairs. I sold the truck with 70,000 miles on it and did not do the phasers or try the spark plug replacement either! Check you tube for phaser videos and spark plug issues with that motor.. Good luck!
