2006 Dodge diesel - I was happy to have a BD Diesel exhaust brake (like a PacBrake) when my Maxbrake controller failed while towing a 14500k trailer on a long busy downgrade in CA.
Another benefit of a PacBrake is engaging it for quick engine warm up (Cummins approves).

Come to think about it I’ve never scared myself driving a truck or sem eye up a hill...
I like having some back up in case the magic smoke escapes from the weedy little 12v wire that runs the trailer brakes.
A tow vehicle can probly do a passable job of slowing a brakeless trailer in town or on highway if you aren’t following too close... but on a loooong downgrade with those annoying corners and sem eyes holding their downhill speed pucker factor can occur...
My irrelevant old truck 6 speed I shift it has 250,000 miles on it. rear original brake pads are coming due and fronts have been changed once.
