The switch would connect to the "ignition feed" wire of the stereo. THat way you can turn off (or on) the stereo from the bed, without getting out of bed.
It would provide the same function as "turning off the ignition" in a vehicle.
When the stereo was replaced, someone probably connected all the power leads together.
My Desert Fox had the same switch.
