2005 Dodge diesel short heater hose replacement

I understand there is a short (approx. 3" long) heater hose located under the turbo that is very difficult to replace.

any of you guys with old Dodge diesels 5.9 had this hose start leaking???????

my truck has 92K miles and I would hate to be out on the road and not have this part. I understand its a special heat resistant hose as its so close to the exhaust manifold.

so I plan on buying the hose plus proper clamps and at least keep it in the tool box. at my next service have it changed out with all hoses at 100K.

coolant hoses will have 100k and 10 years of service, I think they should be replaced.

  • now that I see the title (2005) and thinking about this - I replaced my '97 with an '07 with 83k miles ... I've seen a drip of coolant under it once or twice now. Hmmm, guess I better check that!

Good move, just have it just in case as yes it's a B**** to replace.

Did you have to pull the cab to replace it Rick? :W Didn't think so. :B Now replace head gaskets on a.......... aw never mind. :W

OP what ever you do get a real good high quality silicon hose to replace it with. Don't go cheap on this.

Take the cab off ? :E why... oh never mind :D
  • If you want a good quality complete set of silicone hoses look up Mr Bob's Silicone Hoses. VERY NICE!!! I have a set on my 98 2wd.
  • My '06 developed a "slight" leak, couldn't quite figure out where it was coming from as there wasn't much of any anti-freeze on the ground under it. Took it the Dodge garage for some unrelated service work and they spotted it, called me to let me know it was a short piece of heater hose that needed replacement. I had them do it, that was at around 60k never leaked for me again.

  • I'm on my original hose at 108k miles.
I think my dad has the original one on his '01 with 260ish.
  • Mine leaked 3rd week of ownership.......dealer tightened clamps.

2 months later.......leaking again. Dealership replaced hose.

Found it leaking the next week.......I changed the 'pinch clamps' to hose clamps and haven't had a leak since.
    That was 8 yrs. ago
  • My '98 had 208k on it when I sold it this spring and no issues with heater hoses...
