How do I bullet proof my 2006 Dodge Cummins?
Can I do it for less than $8000?
LOL, yes I think you certainly can! :)
I can tell you that I certainly wish I bought a Ram with a 5.9L Cummins in 2006 rather than the F-350 6.0L that I did. I would most certainly be in much better financial shape truck wise than I am now. Live and learn!
I can tell you my BIL can say the same. He purchased a 09 6.7 cummins and sold it after 9 months of turbo/EGR/DPF clogging issues. The dealer told him to run fuel additives and drive with the turbo brake on which neither fixed the issue. The dealer tech advised him to delete the emissions hardware and his truck would then be reliable, but choose not to risk voiding the warranty. Sold that truck with full disclosure to another farmer who thought the cummins could do no wrong and took a big financial hit.
After all that drama he purchased a 5.9 cummins in Arizona and drove it back to Texas.
In addition we purchased a 05 5.9 cummins truck and that one was a total POS with all 6 injectors being replaced (3 on my tab), front seat replaced due to frame cracked, 4 wheel drive wouldn't engage and exhaust manifold was cracked. That truck was unloaded for a 7.3 PSD Super Duty which has been far the best overall trucks for us.
