I've followed the numerous Duramax forums since 2003. There has NOT been widespread, or even limited reports of overheating in the LBZ motor.
The most common problems are the EGR, leaky tranny lines 2001+, transfer case rub 2001+, and some head gasket issues (not as common as the Ford 6.0 though).
