Couple questions,
Other than the 8th vin digit, I've read that the LBZ will have the newer "DuramaxAllison" badge on the side where as the LLY will just say "Duramax. Do you guys agree?
Also, under the hood. What are some things to look for on a used one in the 85-100K mile range? I know absolutely squat about diesels, as opposed to my current 6 liter being possibly one of the easiest engines to work on.
Correct me if I'm wrong. The 06 LLY is just simply a detuned LBZ, same exact engine minus the programing?
Anybody know the HP differences?
Good God what a mess this thread is!!
I don't know about the LLY badging. My LBZ has the DuramaxAllison badge on it. If I remember right the colors are different on the badge on the years before the LBZ. But don't bet on that!
I would look for a tuner or signs of a tuner. Not that it is a bad thing by its self. A tuner can actually help the engine in some cases.
About the LLY LBZ detuned thing. Here is the deal on that:
(Here is where people get all confused.) There were 2 gens of the LLY. The first gen was made from 04 to 05. They were a good engine but a handful had heating problems that were pretty easy to fix. The second gen was made in 06. This engine is the "EXACT SAME ENGINE AS THE LBZ" sans the tuning.
One more time. The 06 LLY is the "EXACT SAME ENGINE AS THE LBZ" sans the tuning.
The LLY was 310HP and the LBZ was 360 HP.
What are some ways to tell if it's had a tuner?
Thanks for clarifying what I was thinking about the 06 LLY and the tuning.
