x2 I have seen u-joints try to bind up from lack of lubrication. They will not have any noticeable or visible play in the cups. look for rust stains around the cup seals.
Also had a almost new tire with separated internal plies that caused those exact same symptoms, the tire balanced perfectly at the tire shop and showed no visible problems. I swapped out the tires with my spare one at a time until I located the problem tire.
That's what happened to my Blazer, two different mechanics told me the u-joint was fine.
