Why would I think my 5.9 Cummins was a class 8 truck engine? All I said was that Cummins has been powering over the road trucks and building engines for decades, and that's their forte. They put out a good motor. The B50 expected service life for the 5.9 is 350,000. That's proven to be conservative. I've never had one single engine problem in the 4 Cummins trucks I've had, and they've provided me hundreds of thousands of miles of service. The trucks themselves, with the exception of my 2012, leave a bit to be desired. But I'd rather crank that key and hear that sound, confident I'll never be let down, than sit in a luxurious seat waiting for the wrecker.
It's worth noting I am fighting an internal battle with myself right now, unsure if I want to continue driving the '97 (which is in excellent condition and ready to go several hundred thousand more miles), or take the trek down to the dealership for a 2015 Ram dually 4x4 with the 6.7 and the Aisin. I hear the mileage has improved from the 2012.
