When I was looking for a diesel pickup in 2011 and check the owners surveys I found that Ford trucks were the worst but sold at a $5,000 discount compared to Ram and GM diesel trucks.
With the 2006 model year diesels the used trucks had way above average problems with major and minor engine problems, drive system, fuel system, electrical system, and above average problems reported for the suspension, paint, and trim.
Ford diesel pickup problems largely disappeared with the 2010 models except for problems with paint/trim, squeaks and rattles, power equipment, and the audio system.
I bought a new 2011 GM truck and if I was going to buy a used truck today it would be either a 2011 or newer GM or a Ram with the Cummins engine. Ram actually sells more 1-ton pickups than Ford and GM/Chevy combined.
