I have owned this truck for 8 years and its a beast when hauling a camper. Its carrying capacity is awesome for a SRW in that model year. Spending <$2000 in vehicle repairs on a diesel truck in 8 years is pretty decent i think. Aside from the engine this body style of 05-07 is absolutely rock solid, amazing transmission, excellent interior especially in the lariat crew cab models. I have put over 10,000km on logging roads on my truck (almost all with camper) and nothing is falling off or apart lol. I will say that i monitor the truck closely with digital gauges that will let you know of a potential problem long before it "grenades" and costs you thousands in a head gasket repair.
Dont chip the truck, and id recommend a coolant filter and edge insight cts or scanguageII to keep an eye on things. I would also do a bit of research about the 6.0 engine. I have done a lot of research and feel i know a lot about what is going on with these engines and how unintentional neglect by many owners has led to a bad reputation. You need to be willing to educate yourself with this engine or pass on it imo.
One other thing is the new PCM strategy (ford programming) will limp mode the truck on many circumstances that would otherwise cause damage. So you should ensure you have that if you purchase a 6.0. if this was released many years ago and done as a RECALL to every 6.0 i think many catastrophic failures would have been avoided.

I am happy your truck has provided you with such great service. Nowhere did anyone say that every truck has experienced problems. A failure rate of 100% would be impossible. However, that does not change the fact that the engine is a poor design, acknowledged by both Navistar and Ford.
If I got Ebola virus and lived, should I then be confident in telling people that Ebola virus isn't that bad even though it's killing 70% of those infected? The fact remains that the 6.0 has a horrible track record.
