- dodge_guyExplorer IIYou will love the Town Car. you could put a free flowing exhaust with quiet turbo mufflers, maybe change the rear gear to a 3.55, I think stock is 2.73!!! this would be the best mod and with the O/D would be perfect. you could even put a tuner on it to wake it up a bit more. lot`s can be done!
- vacuumbedExplorerGood thoughts, thanks everyone.
carringb I saw a video of a Town Car that spanked a Lexus, it was cool. If there were some simple mods I could do to speed it up I wouldn't mind doing those. It looks like I'm going to get the Town Car. As far as luxury combined with reliability goes, the Town Car I think gives me the best value for my dollar.
The biggest thing I miss about a Ford product is the keyless entry keypad on the drivers side door. No luxury car should lack that feature. - jerem0621Explorer III have a 2000 Lincoln Town Car and they are not immune to issues. However, the issues they have are easily corrected. Mine is currently leaking oil from around the valve covers, should be an easy weekend fix. Also my air ride is failing, then again it's 15 years old and has 147k miles on it. The drivers power window switch fails from time to time. Mine is due to be replaced.
So for me, I'm replacing the air ride system with a coil spring conversion, fixing the power window switch, replacing the valve cover gaskets and valve cover stud grommets, replacing all fluids and will try to get another 200-300k out of it.
Great looking car btw
Thanks!
Jeremiah - carringbExplorerThe panther is a great platform!

Buy Lexus and forget your problems for ever.
Hi everyone,
Not a tow vehicle, but I wanted some input. My 03 Cadillac Seville is getting of the age where oil leaks and a few other things are going wrong.
I'm thinking of a 2006 Lincoln Town Car as a replacement. Any feedback of thoughts on these two? Thanks everyone! - vacuumbedExplorerI've been reading some Cadillac oil leak threads and someone mentioned a 2006 DHS that was leaking. Again, I could keep it and fix it , but what if it leaks again? I don't think the Lincoln will leak at all from what I've heard.
They both have their pros and cons. The Caddy is sportier and faster, and it has more thought out features. The Lincoln has a much bigger trunk and the keyless keypad on the outside of the drivers door. Here is a pic of the Town Car I'm considering. - donandmaxExplorer

HUH! a Northstar Caddy with an oil leak imagine that! LOL.
You will be extremely happy with the Town Car. plenty of power and they ride very nice. they have no issues and are pretty bullet proof. If you want sporty, look for an 03-04 Mercury Marauder (Grand Marquis). when I`m done with the X and TT and we get a MH that will be my next car!
If your NS doesnt leak, better pull over and check because its probably out of oil. - carringbExplorer

I can assure you the quality is not better even now! They still have their issues!
Initial quality is miles ahead of where they were, and easily rivals even Acura. And they easily out-perform the new Acuras.
However, I'm still skeptical of long-term reliability. It seams that around the 5 or 6 year mark, the newer Caddy's are still plagued with nuisance electronics issues and failing fuel pumps. - dodge_guyExplorer III can assure you the quality is not better even now! They still have their issues!

Maybe Cadillac could take some lessons from Honda??
They already have.
When? :B
CTS Motor Trend Car of the year.
ATS
Not to mention the CTS-V the XTS.
The Northstar had it is problems, oil leaks and head gaskets on the early ones. You missed out on the all the updates in 2004. The last run of Northstars in the last Gen STS was very good.
