2009 21SS -- Bunk End Replacement Cost/Availability?

Getting our 21SS prepped for our first outing this year, I found that our bunk doors have started to delaminate at the bottom -- visually, the fiberglass at the bottom of the doors is wavy. They front door is a little bit mushy in some spots.

I've seen other posts indicating that in the past, Forest River has provided some assistance in taking care of this problem, but given the age of my unit, I'm not expecting anything.

Assuming I get no assistance from Forest River on this problem, can anyone provide insight into what this is going to cost me to fix? Are replacement doors likely to be available from the manufacturer for the 2009 model year?

Ultimately, I need to get the dealer to give me a quote; I'm just looking for someone else's experience with this as a sanity check.

Thanks,

Adam

Hey Hornnumb2, does that company you used make doors for all different brands or are the shamrock only? Thanks.

It the ForestRiver factory, I would imagine its just there products.
  • My 2009 Roo 23SS went back to FR in April and got the new style doors and canvas installed. I had to pay for parts only and get the trailer to Indiana and back.

It will be interesting to see what they charge, those rv guys don't work cheap!

Yes i'm wondering myself however his hourly rate is right where the rv shops are priced at in this area. I will let you know.

  • I actually have the same problem on my 2005 Trail Lite Bantam B22S. I was afraid that i was going to have to replace the door until i talked to a local mobile RV repair person who has told me its pretty easy to repair and not have to replace the whole door. I just discovered it and haven't had him take an actual hard look at it for an estimate but he says he is very familiar with it and its not that bad of a fix. We will see soon, :h
  • The only place I see it that moisture can come in would be where the metal frame on the door meets the outer shell. Michael
  • Thanks for the prompt input -- that's actually real encouraging. I was worried I would be out of luck, or that I was looking at several thousand between parts and shipping.

I'll see what I can find out for my particular model and share for the benefit of others.

I'm curious -- assuming you had the same issue as me (water leaking in somewhere) do you think it was a design defect or something that different maintenance could have prevented? I'm wondering if once I replace the door, I'm looking at a repeat issue in three years or if there's something to be done to prevent it.

  • I just ordered a replacement for my 2006 Shamrock, door is $330, $80 crate fee and shipping. I also ordered new molding for the door and trailer. Came out to about $600 for everything. pm me if you want a contact for the factory, i ordered direct from them. They tell you about 4 weeks but I ordered mine on 5/16 and it shipped on 6/5. Michael
