I would agree the V10 would be more desirable, but it's all about how big of a hurry you are in. IMHO the 5.4 would be adequate for towing what you are looking for. The V10 is also rare on the market, the 5.4's are more common.
The comment about loading and unloading a bike in the bed is a worthy consideration, and I've done it a dozen times or so without mishap so far. You might jump over to youtube and search 'load fail' for hours of what not to do.
