2009 Saturn Vue - Odometer

I have 2009 Saturn Vue 4-cylinder. After towing the first time, I've discovered that miles are registering on my odometer. Does pulling the IGNSW 2-amp fuse stop registering miles on the odometer?
  • I'm guessing you have the ignition ON? Nearly all cars newer than mid '90s do not register mileage when being towed if the key is in the accessory or unlock position.

For those who are not familiar with dignhy towing, most buyers of these cars understand that the car has "rolled" more miles than the odometer indicates. For a buyer specifically looking for a car to tow behind a motorhome, the added value of the car being set up already offsets the extra mileage the car was towed IMO.
  • carpetguy is correct - with the Saturn product, 'pulling' the fuse removes the battery drain of the ingition being in 'ASSY' and also the Odometer does not register the miles while the fuse is pulled.
A popular maker of tow bars and brackets also has a kit that once installed, you simply move a switch rather than pull the fuse - works the same. Oh - yes, my current toad is a 2009 Saturn Outlook AWD - and I LOVE it!!
  • You do have a issue if your not pulling your fuse or something else might be wrong.
My Dad does tow his saturn Vue.Behind his motor home. And you must pull the fuse.
He does not get mileage on it from towing it.
  • When towing my CRV the odometer does not ring up the miles I have gone.
  • rhagfo has a point... the axles, hubs, drive shaft and its connecting parts and other components are still working even though the engine is not running. I don't know enough about disabling certain components while towing a vehicle, but marking the miles towed on the odometer would make sense to me.

So what you want is to only register the miles driven, not flat towed. Well if you tow it 70,000 miles and only drive it 10,000 miles, would that not be a bit misleading when you went to sell it as a low mileage car?? Yes the engine has only been driven 10,000 miles, but the wheels have rolled up 80,000 miles, a bit misleading.
  • If am I reading your question correctly, I think the forum you want is the "Dinghy Towing" forum. This "Tow Vehicles" forum is about vehicles that tow trailers, not about vehicles that are towed. You will get better answers there.
  • I would think that if it goes down the road the odometer should record how far it went.
