No need to waste time with that. After all, Cummins only has several published papers recommending coolant testing for all diesel engines and they only sell the test strips as a way to make money from owners of other engines! LOL
HA I was being sarcastic! No need to do anything special with the 5.9 or 6.7 Cummins.
Now the big boys that is a different story since they are sleeved blocks. - VulcaneerExplorerI got the "check coolant additive" message from my DIC. Had no idea what it meant. So I just blew it off, as BS. I do appreciate the OP bringing this up. I need to check it.

Really ? Isn't this just a bit of a stretch ?
I think Ford must be doing lots of things right, including building trucks. They would not be in business for too long if their cars and trucks were falling apart. Instead it's the exact opposite. Have you read their expansion announcement that just came out today ?
You have to understand that certain posters on this site will go out of their way to disparage one brand or another...facts, common sense, even average intelligence are irrelevant when is comes to brand bashing here. Some people just default to the negative when reading or seeing something about brand X. Most folks realize that tow vehicles from the big 3 are as close to identical as to not matter once emotion is taken out of the equation. - GoPackGoExplorer" If you like spending countless hours testing and replacing . . . ."

coolant.....nitrite....test?
is this because of dex-cool, or fords equivalent? are fords that fragile coolant tests are needed every so many miles?
who in there right mind would buy one of these trucks?
Hummmm another troll!
I asked a simple question gump, show me another passenger car company that recommends testing their 5yr/150k coolant every 15,000 miles? today's consumer want less car maintenance not more. If you like spending countless hours testing and replacing on a new truck good for you. - 45RicochetExplorer

No. But it was changed 2 years ago at the dealership. Well within the 100k mile PM rate. Even had the brake fluid flushed although I didn't notice any difference in braking. PM thing I guess, keep driving without being DOTSOR :B - Turtle_n_PeepsExplorer

The Cummins have always been easy with coolant, the reason is the block is solid one piece cast iron. Ford and Dmax use separate cylinder liners.
Say what?????? :h
What part confused you.
Cummins one piece block cylinders are part of the cast block.
Ford and Dmax, cylinder walls are a pressed in sleeve, they need special additives to prevent cavitation (erosion) of the cylinder walls.
Take your pick.
The part that says Dmax or Fords have wet sleeves or the part that says a Dmax needs special additives.
Show me a few links that talk about cavitation boring a hole in a Dmax cylinder and I will go with that. ;)
The only reason the 7.3's mouse holed was because Ford took the 6.9 block and bored it out too thin and the cavitation could bore a hole right through the cylinder. - 720DeereExplorer

Don't think so! Most likely another ex-Ford owner. I have driven with the exception of two VW products, all Fords for 45 years. Drove two F250's with 460/C6 drive trains, came diesel time I went with Cummins, the Dodge came with it. I will say Dodge is a much better truck than many think. My 01 Cummins does a great job of moving my 11,000# 5er, up hill and down hill. Will likely never own another Ford truck again unless it comes with a Cummins.
