Ignore the brand (alone). Every brand makes a range of tires that are really great to really poor. I'm value feedback and rankings from as many people as possible.
Tirerack's surveys offer a lot of that with rankings. You are probably interested in the
Truck Highway All season and
OffRoad all terrain categories. Note that Goodyear offers one tire model that is ranked almost at the top and almost at the bottom in the same survey. Likewise, BF Goodrich.
Few tires are offered in multiple LT load ranges. An E load tire will offer the same weight rating as a C load tire at the same pressure, say 40psi for empty half tons. I would not exclude all LT E load rted tires just because they are E rated tires and you''ll never run 80psi. Focus on buying a good/recommended tire in your budget.
