2011-present 6.7 superduty owners ?

I just sold my diesel pusher motor home and I'm going back to a fifthwheel. Even though I have owned two ford diesels (7.3&6.0), I was leaning towards a gas truck with 4.30 axle to tow my new fifthwheel (Montana with 11,700 dry weight and 2,600 pin weight). The problem is I have to order this truck and there are a ton of diesel powered f350's on the lot. So, 6.7 power stroke owners, how do you like your engines and how reliable have they been. Please post mileage along with any problems to date. Also, I'm looking at a crew cab short bed, how is the 26 gal. Fuel tank for you diesel owners? What kind of range do you get out of a tank, both towing and non towing?
Thank you in advance!

  • You will get much better fuel mileage with a diesel. The 26 gallon tank is a joke, figure on replacing it with a 50 gallon Titan tank right away. Diesel fuel was priced close to regular gas in much of the country, the east is where the price is out of line.

I just pulled a 26' TT all around the country and got just over 11 MPG. I used all kinds of roads, not just interstates. I learned that the 6.7 was the right choice for me. The exhaust brake alone is worth it. I am well pleased in how the western mountains were not even a factor going up or down.

It would be better to allow a regen to complete, but it ain't necessary.
  • The 6.7 has been flawless so far. I've been tracking my mileage on this trip: FL to WY so far, and have been getting 10-11 mpg so far towing. I've heard very few complaints so far about the 6.7 except for rare fuel system problems. Be careful where you buy diesel water is deadly to any of these latest generation fuel systems.

When the engine regens you just keep on driving. Not towing I get 17 +/- mpg. It is a towing beast, it pulls our 5ver up those grades easily and the engine brake makes going down the grades just as easy.
  • One other question, if the truck starts a regen, do you have to stop what your are doing ( driving, towing, etc.) or do you just keep trucking like nothing is going on?
