True! But there things that can be done like removing the proportioning valve for the rear brakes along with changing to 1 1/8" or 1 1/4" rear GM wheel cylinders. Forget what size.
Or change to EGR rear disk kit as I did on my 98 after doing the other options.
You really don't want to just increase the size of wheel cylinders. I know this is a common mod and shops suggest it all the time but you will actually get worse braking if that's all you do. If you made this mod and did get better brakes, it was because you changed out the factory pads (Dodge pads get less effective over time) or it was just because it got a good bleeding.
I just know what I did made a difference along with many on the TDR at the time. The Proportioning valve removal for sure did the most. Was not an issue with the rear antilock braking.
I'm sure it was the other things that effected them. The TDR was once a good resource. Not anymore. Lots of bad info and errogance, especially on "Johns" part (Allen's not much better). After nearly 18 years on there, I've completley written it off. It saddens me to say that but it's a toilet to me now.
Using a larger wheel cyl. without any change to the MC results in more power but a shorter throw - so it doesn't push on the shoes as much. It takes more fluid to move that bigger cylinder the same distance so a bigger MC is required to make up for it.
It's possible the prop valve missing made up for it since you're allowing more fluid to flow back there without it. Interesting...
This stuff is so freakin complicated that even the manufacurers will make small changes to a given system with new model years. So even they can't always get it right the first time.
