What a piece of $#!t..... 3.08 gearbox. I can't tow crap..... $55K right down the drain....
Welcome and say it's not the in-animate object's 'fault'. As it is what
it is
'half ton' TV's (Pickups, SUVs, etc) range from 6.2K GVWR all the way up
to +8K GVWR.
Half ton GMT900 Suburban's range from 7K GVWR up to 7.6K GVWR and note
that SUV's derived from pickups (full ladder frame0 weigh more and therefore
generally has 'less' capacity because of the added glass, doors, seats,
insulation, etc, etc
Agree with Greg, changing the diff gear ratio is a low cost (in reference
to going out and getting a bigger TV) way to increase the MTWR. Albeit
your TV will still be a 'half ton' SUV. You will need to find the GCWR
chart for your year/model Sub, as the diff ratio does increase the
MTWR and sometimes GCWR so that you can see which diff ratio 'might'
work for you and your choice of TT
jerem0621 first came here with the typical 'half ton' positioning...trying
to make it tow more than it was rated for IIRC...he learned how the
system works (simple math) and left the half ton world to a dually
Here is a picture of how the towing metrics (ratings) work. This will
help you decide to stay with a half ton, or go to a bigger TV. Tough
on so many that they see no difference between a half ton Sub vs the
bigger Sub. Correct in that they 'look' the same, as they both use
the exact same body, but the difference is in the frame/suspension/etc
Why a 3/4 ton Sub sits about 2 inches taller, even though they both use
the exact same body

PS...the GMC Yukon XL (about 8 or so years old badge history) is a rebadged
Chevy Suburban (about +75 years old badge history). Same general
vehicle, but the GMC has more/different optional equipment
