My opinion is still... get a trailer in that 5000lb dry range, load light, keep it under the 3.42 rating as much as possible and drive. Lock out 6th and maybe even 5th to keep from shifting repeatedly. Watch the digital trans temp and coolant temp. Pull over to enjoy the overlooks in the mountains instead of trying to power up the entire stretch at one time. Pull at 58-62mph max.
The ratings are so you can drive like an idiot and still have a good chance of making it home. If you take it easy and monitor everything, shouldn't be a problem. All the safety related components of your vehicle are rated the same as the 3.42's.
