Ours specified adjustment every 18,000 miles under the emergency vehicle schedule. Normal schedule was much longer, but still much more frequent than I would have guessed.
If you consider that its a highway truck engine... Some owners would be adjusting the valves every 4 1/2 weeks. 500,000 is a reasonable figure. There have been some issues with the high horsepower Detroits and longevity, but I don't think it will be an issue pulling such a light load. Fuel mileage should be somewhere 8-10, no worse than a pickup...
