2013 f150 trailer relay and fuse

Based on my internet searches ( after the fact ) I am not the only one who missed this. I did read the manual but did not catch it and the salesman / dealer did not mention it.

Was getting ready to take my truck in for 1st service and noticed the relay and fuse in a bag in the truck. Then I remembered having to install mine in my 2004 f150.

We already took our first towing trip to the Fl Keys and thought we were charging at least a little while driving, but not without the relay / fuse installed.

Dealer installed mine for me yesterday. Now really ready to tow :)

Just thought I would post a reminder.

Roger on both FUSE AND RELAY in my 2010 F150 Ford truck. I found my unmarked plastic bag in the glove box as well with no explanation on what it was for... The relay is under control of your ignition key and this turns OFF TOW CHARGE when the truck key is turned off...

Kinda neat to have the ignition key control as this will help keeping you from discharging your truck start battery when the truck motor isn't running.

  • In the bag with the fuse and relay was an instruction sheet.
  • Also,
To add, On all fords... DO NOT Leave your cord plugged into your truck and connect your trailer to Shore Power. It will blow the fuse on the truck side. Found this out the hard way.
  • Thanks for that tip, I could see myself plugging in that way.

My bag did not have instructions in it.
  • Mine bag did not have instructions either. But seeing it is all over the internet, they must have cut them out to save money :)
  • My bag didn't have instructions either. I found it in the glove box then started checking the fuse panel under the hood and found the empty spot for trailer brake. Kinda upset that you order a truck with max tow and the dealer can't plug this in during pre delivery inspection.

Odd, I've done this plenty of times, but not with the truck running.
  • I wonder if that's a late model thing???? When we are getting ready to take a trip mine is always plugged into shore power the night before while plugged into the truck. And when stopping in route for the night , once I plug in the electric , I never pull the cord from the truck... BTW.. It's an 09 ??
