I hate to break up the Kumbaya love feast for the 6.7.........but I will for the sake of the truth. :B
The 6.7 had some common problems. Here is the short list:
Turbo problems.
Turbo problems.
More turbo problems
Valve problems
Valve problems
Valve problems
More Valve problems
Bearing problems
6.7 breakdown and inspection.
Some will rally about HPFP failure. Although there have been quite a few HPFP the truth of the matter is there have been way, way, way more turbo failures so I won't bother giving you links for the HPFP failures. They are out there and so expensive it will take your breath away.
The problem with talking to people that own these engines are that if they don't suffer from any engine problems they think they are a great engine. This is just not the truth and false reasoning at its worst.
Case in point is I own several 5.7 diesels and up to last year drove one to work on a daily basis. Never had anything go wrong with the engines even though I know this engine is the worst diesel engine known to man kind. If I didn't know anything about diesel engines (like most don't) I would go around and recommend this engine to everybody because it has been so good to "me".
That is the bad news. The good news is Ford has fixed the valve problems, updated the turbo, and has refined a lot of stuff on this engine for 2015. In short, it's a good designed engine with some problems and Ford has addressed those problems in 2015 going forward.
Is it worth it to buy a used truck with a 6.7 diesel in it? Only you can answer that. :)
