Going with this logic I'm sure the vast majority had no problems with their 5.7 Olds diesels. Must be a great engine if a majority has no problems with it. :S

Your not fooling no one here :W and we all know the majority did have problems with the 5.7 Olds diesel. :W It was the diesel engine that put one big nasty stain on the diesel engine reputation in the US and was so bad that it still has left it's nasty mark with some avoiding GM diesel engines because of it. I remember hearing that the techs reporting that these engine would literally throw a rod just by the tech reving the engine during diagnostics.
And yes the vast majority (statistically speaking) is a good indicator of a engines reliability, durability, and performance.
Filter out the outliars from internet detractors like yourself, tuners/neglect, and I believe Ford as an outstanding engine/drivetrain that is second to none at this point in time.
