As with all new engines, there are sure to be teething issues. The CP4 is known to be a little fragile, but it seems like the owners that have typically kept up with maintenance and buy fuel at areas of known quality tend to have a good experience with the engine. It doesn't seem to be anywhere the disaster the 6.0 was. I don't know much about the 6.4 to compare it to. There were some valve issues on the Scorpion when it first rolled out. However, by mid 2012 most of it was ironed out. The turbo is known to have a lot of weight on its shaft supporting 2 compressor wheels with a relatively small cartridge. So that does introduce a little more wear. However, seems like a few owners have dumped the Gen 1 turbo in favor of the more conventional Gen 2 turbo found on the 2015+ engines. Seems like a good upgrade for the motor (and from the videos I've watched, it sounds wickedly awesome if you're into mechanical noises). If it were me and I really wanted a blue oval truck, I'd certainly consider 2013+ super duties. However, I'd be more inclined to wait for prices to drop on 2015 super duties as you get access to the better turbo, upgraded fuel pump, upgraded engine block, and far better engine braking with the new setup. The 2015+ motor will out-brake the Cummins motor stock for stock. However, the Cummins can have a load leash installed onto it that's basically a jake brake (floats an exhaust valve) which doubles the engine-braking capability of a Cummins (Which is around 180 to 200 HP stock).
