2013 Ford F150 3.5 V6 Ecoboost and should I tow with it??

I'm considering the 2013 Ford F150 3.5 V6 Ecoboost with tow package to pull my 2017 Jayco 28RL Travel Trailer (6800lbs). This truck is rated to pull over 11,000lbs.
My question is do any of you pull anything over 8000lbs of weight plus gear with this truck? I'm very skeptical. Looking for opinions before passing or buying this truck. Any problems with the turbos?

Thanks for your suggestions.
  • Welcome to the forum.

At 11,000# it must have the Max Tow package, have you verified that?
And what's the yellow-sticker payload on it?

I'm about 7200# in the TT loaded, and I'm right at the rear axle rating according to the CAT scales. This is an extended cab, standard payload, with just DW & myself.
Power-wise, I'm more than satisfied with the EB F150. Handling is also good using a Reese Dual Cam. I still have the "P" tires but run them at 40PSI (44PSI rated.)
  • I just bout a new leftover 2016 f150. I had the choice between 3,5 eb and the 5L. I opted for the coyote just because im afraid of the longevity of the EB. the milage numbers are close and although the EB has slightly better performance I love my coyote. it gets the job done well. ive also heard the EB is prone to carbon buildup but to each their own. I drove both loved both in the end I went with what I know and what im comfortable with (IMO still no replacement for displacement)

side note: id pay real close attention to payload ratings

Is that 6800lb loaded or empty?. If loaded. you are good to go. If empty. You will need to know what your MAX WDH tongue weight can be, AND what your max payload can be.

The max tongue weight is going to need to be in the 1000lb range. The GVWR of the truck is going to need to be pretty high. Somewhere in the 7500lb range, to carry the tongue weight and passengers.
  • The problem isn't so much the turbo's, it's the direct injection and the resulting carbon build up at higher mileage.
Fords fix in the past has been to replace the heads.
And it's not a "Ford" thing; any gas vehicle with DI is subject to this problem. That's not a reason to not tow with it though.

Now someone is going to come on and say they have 3 million miles and never heard of this or that I'm some sort of anti Ford guy. My history of posts proves otherwise and besides, I owned lots of Ford and Chevys.
I suggest you do some internet research for yourself.
