- PapaNIes60ExplorerWe bought at 2015 Hideout 210LHS in April 2015. It actually had one previous owner who decided, after 4 months, they wanted a much larger rig. So he took the hit on depreciation. I got to the dealership just at the right time as they had just made the trade the day prior. Interestingly enough, on our first outing we found out that the previous owners were just a couple spots down from us in their new fiver. We all got a good laugh out of that.
Anyway, we took it on a 600 mile round trip and I must say we have been very pleased thus far. It pulled like a dream behind our 2000 f150 5.4l Super cab. We decided to purchase a 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3 w/ 3.42 axel so that we can venture farther away from home without worrying about a break down in our old Ford. I will come back to this forum again after we have had some more time in our Hideout. - The_Dung_BeetleExplorerWanderingnotlost....
Ohhh sure... torture me! I work for the school district, and start back to work on Tuesday. Hub is retired, but I'm not quite there yet. Nooooooooooo more "dung rolling" for us now until June 2014. Pleaseeeeeee smell the roses for us along the way, and for sure post your updates and photos! Have fun!!
Safe Travels!
The DB's.. - Desert_BuggyExplorerReply to The Dung Beetles (LOVE the username): We're currently putting another 7000+ miles on the Hideout. I'll make a point in October to post my changes/updates.
- dadmomhExplorerNice looking unit. I like the fact that it has more kitchen workspace than many. The wardrobes in the bedroom and the overhead are even more functional than you'd imagine....we just went to a TT with that feature and it's great. Bathroom has decent storage. Exterior storage is nice. I see a lot of Hornets on I-40, which we travel almost daily.
Only reservation would be if you needed for more than 2 at the dinette, you'd have to make other arrangements, but otherwise a nice looking and functional unit.
Is the price they're quoting including a WDH?? You might try to get them to include that and maybe a start-up package, with sewer hose and other misc items. The site I looked at showed an MSRP of $21,000+, so I think you may have a bit of wiggle room on the price. Good luck and happy camping!!! - The_Dung_BeetleExplorerNot sure this will show it, but you had to tip up the couch seat to get to this storage. Now.. it's open and easy to grab. Another plus is keeping the extra storage weight to the front of the trailer. Oh well.. it doesn't show the lower couch, and now I don't see a delete button. I'll work on removing this later - for now I need to get busy.
. - The_Dung_BeetleExplorerWe bought our 20' 2007 Hideout by Hornet back in May. We put 1500 miles on it this summer with no issues. It had been well used, but well cared for too. A few minor blemishes, but nothing that were deal breakers. No leaks or mold. We use "load levelers and 1 anti-sway bar" going down the road. Tows well...and behaves up to 65 mph. That's as fast as I'll tow.
We felt it was way too low for some of the camping we might like to do so we had the axles flipped which helped greatly with clearance.
Ours has a Dometic fridge (which works GREAT..good sized freezer too). It has a Wedgewood 3 burner gas stove. Works great... Heating/A/C works great. Porcelain toilet. Future project may hold a "Fantastic Ceiling Fan", but not sure on the installation. The fan on the A/C blows up a storm...lol
The stock removable shower head was more of a glorified dribble which left something to be desired (it was about as efficient as a drooling dog) so we replaced it with an Oxygenic hand held... MUCHO BETTER! It's a real shower now! The bathroom fan is adequate.
Agreed... the step out of the tub is too BIG for a short person. I'm thinking we need a small assist handle there. I'm short and my hub is disabled - the tub side is about 4" too tall.
Bed... BAD! We put Memory Foam on the bed, and it's comfy now.
The fan over the gas stove sounds like a 747 revving up for take off. WAYYYY TOOOOOO NOISY, but it's efficient!
Microwave is a brand name and works very well.
The kitchen and food prep areas are generous given the size of the TT! We are working on reclaiming the space under one of the table seating benches so we can pull things out from the side rather then having to pull apart the seat to access the storage.
We removed the false front on the couch that is placed side to side to the right of the entry door - The false couch front was screwed to a 1/2" lip on the floor. That was a lot of wasted storage area! That area now holds 5 plastic storage tubs with a little room to spare and the 1/2" lips keeps the tubs from sliding around when traveling. My winter project is to make a little café' curtain to hide that area while keeping it easily accessible.
We are now looking into finding sturdy, free standing, pull out wire shelf organizers that will go under the sink. Not sure we want to build anything in as that is the ONLY access to the kitchen sink/pipes should we ever have a problem. Would love some suggestions on that area!
All in all we LOVE this little unit. I only wish it had a slide out! We'd keep it forever. It gets a little crowded in there at night when we are all in there (2 adults 2 dogs). For now...we are very pleased with the overall construction of this unit, and it's performance - especially given it's 6 yrs old and well used.
@ Wanderingnotlost -
I would love to see the list of upgrades you made to your TT! Thanks! - Desert_BuggyExplorerSorry I didn't see this thread sooner.
My husband and I have enjoyed ours since December when it arrived (special order).
My comments will be in comparison to our previous TT (2009 Coachmen 150mph Blast toy hauler).
Pros:
Nice fit and finish. No sawdust lurking in the cabinets. No loose screws, staples, or trim. No blobs of caulking.
Three flip-up windows that can be left open even during rain for ventilation.
Adequate kitchen counter space for a small kitchen.
Porcelin toilet at same angle as door, so your legs run parallel to door instead of knees into door.
Storage, storage, storage: inside and out. (We had very minimal in our tiny toy hauler).
Freezer is plenty big to pack more than four little boxes of Stouffer's lasagna. :)
Back lower bunk bed is low enough that no step is necessary. (Jayco's version of this TT was significantly higher).
Enough space in the aisles and doorways that a person can step aside to let someone else by.
Heater/ A/C more than adequate so far.
Cons:
Mattresses. We replaced to meet our needs.
Shower/Tub floor is too high for short people like me to exit gracefully. Added grab handle over toilet to assist.
Two places in kitchen area where storage space does not have an access door. I plan on removing the decorative wood and installing doors.
Modifications to standard equipment:
Standard queen mattress for front bed
Memory foam full mattress for lower bunk
Wire shelving in cabinets on either side front bed.
Removed piston on front door (We prefer door latched wide
open)
Heng's II ventilator fan in bathroom
I have made many more modifications if you'd like a more complete list.
We have taken the TT on three trips with great success.
I'll gladly answer any further questions and post pics if necessary. - Aadkins101Explorer97roadking, please do let me know what you think when you actually take a trip in your new Hornet!
- foneguy493Explorerwell there are no reviews out there oo new, but i looks nice, and light. i have an 07 ideout 27bh no troubles with it at all.
- 97roadkingExplorerI just purchased the Keystone Hideout 270lhs. Only camped in the back yard so far but our first trip is in 3 weeks. I'll let you know then what I think. As far as the price goes I think you could bring him down a little further.
