My GMC also 3:73, hauls high RPM a lot climbing - did the climb out of Death Valley several times - and if you can haul that one, everything else is a piece of cake ... High RPM, but it just burbles right along.
I'd suggest watching the heat gauge closely on long, steep hauls ... but it should be OK ... and remember, if you reduce that gearing to 4:10, you'll lose MPG as well. And you don't always need that 4:10 gears either, most times, you're hauling flatter -- and the 4:10 will whine more than the 3:73 will. And 4:10 will run higher RPM for the same mph as 3:73.
