2014 Jeep Cherokee Harsh Ride

I recently purchased a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Limited with the Active Drive II suspension to use as a dingy. This suspension was the only one that can be used for flat towing. After the first hundred miles I was ready to get rid of the vehicle. I was not aware when I ordered the car it comes with a "OFF ROAD" suspension which produces an incredibly rough ride for my 66 year old body. Speaking to Jeep produced a series of comments that it was my fault and I should have test driven the vehicle. Here is a $40,000 luxury SUV aimed as a tow vehicle for the RV Boomers and it has an Off Road suspension?
My advice is pass on this car unless you want a very rough ride. The car is amazing in many other ways but the ride diminishes any benefit from the electronics or appearance.:(

  • He is a new member and this is his first post. So he is not happy with a Jeep that is equipped for OFF Road. Could be that this is the first off road vehicle he has owned and was expecting to find a soft highway type ride.

Any chance that a tire pressure reduction might help?

    x2.

Even a small drop in PSI can make a big difference.

I just dropped from 38psi per tire to 32psi per tire on my old Land Cruiser and to be frank I was astonished at the difference 5-6lb less per tire made.

Hope you find a resolution OP; stinks to be unhappy with a new toy :(
  • I'm guessing since he didn't test drive the one he bought, chances are he hasn't driven other SUVs so he isn't aware that SUVs in general will have a rougher ride than a luxury sedan.

That being said if you want to spend about $5000 you can have a shop put other springs and shocks on to smooth out the ride a little. Do some research to locate a shop with experience in ride comfort....some off road shops may be able to help.
  • :h I test drove a few of them before we ordered ours. I didn't notice it rode any "rougher" than any other small SUV/CUV we test drove, and we tried a lot of them. Mazda, Subaru, Jeep Compass, etc.
  • Sorry dude, but buying without test driving and complaining about it, you won't get sympathy here. That is why I am waiting before I order my Ram 1500 Diesel.
  • You didn't test drive before purchasing :H

That's one of the first things done
"Hey salesman, Grab the keys....we're going for a ride"

Heck all the commercials show it happening.
  • Too bad, as it seems that flat towable automatics are getting more rare as time goes on.

Love our Sunfire, but soon it will be time to replace and I have not seen anything yet that I would replace it with.

    Thanks for the heads up
