2014 Kodiak 172e questions

I have one and the rear bunk is difficult to close.
Basically what I have noticed is when you take out the shepherds pole and drop the bow, the bow sits down too low in the crease where the hinge is. This keeps the bunk from closing properly.
If i take the bow out the bunk closes fine but the bow is designed to stay in place according to the manufacturer. Has anyone had a similar problem? How did you get it resolved?
I would prefer to not have to remove the bow every time I close the bunk.
  • The bow sits in the crease? What crease? The hinge? The fold in the mattress (if there is one)?

We found putting the bow inside the folded mattress started to wear a hole in the mattress. We fold the mattress and drop the bow on top of it. Ours is a Roo, though, so your set up may be different.

  • Chuck thanks for the reply and the great picture
By crease I mean down where the hinge is
So basically I remove the shepherds pole
    Then pull up the mattress
Then am supposed to fold the bow down flush with the bunk platform
    Then close the bunk
The top of the bow is now pointing down towards the hinge
When I close it the bow gets "pinched in the hinge and makes it hard to close
On the kodiak, if I fold the bow over the mattress the two connections of the bow to the platform, the pressure makes the bow pop out of that connection.
The bow is made to pop in and out easily. Its not secured with a screw or anything similar. Its like a little ball that pops into a female receptacle.

    Any thoughts??
  • i've never seen a hybrid where the bow/hoop reaches the hinge, when it's laid flat.
nothing like any Roo/Shamrock would have. i just lay the bow/hoop down on the bigger side of the mattress, fold the narrower side over on top of the bow/hoop and then secure it down with the mattress straps/snaps, slightly different than Chuck's pic.

unless a Kodiak/Cub owner can join in, pics would be helpful.
