For your trailer and non-trailer use I would be getting one of the new F-150 which are rated for towing up to 12,000 lbs. and being lighter will provide much better fuel economy as a daily driver.
Download the towing guides from the truck manufacturers which takes 5 minutes to do and then compare the towing capacity with different engine and gear combinations. The gears make as much of a difference as the engine and foolish to get tall gears that make the engine work harder and only improve MPG on paper.
I understand what you are attempting but if it was me I would be buying a 10 year old gas powered 3/4 ton pickup with 4.10 gears for the towing and get a car like a Focus for my daily driver. That is what I actually do in part having a 3/4 ton diesel pickup and a 45 MPG Prius. 90% of my miles driven each year are with the Prius that also burns the much cheaper regular gas.
