Dodge finally re-did their specs page and it finally represents the Hemi and not a base engine.
The 8 Speed for the Hemi looks to be great. Finally a transmission that won't suck all the power out of the hemi! It looks like a winner with a great 4.71 1st gear that can be coupled to a very high ratio 3.92 axle ratio! This thing will have great pulling torque off the line.
!
3.92 is NOT a high gear. In fact, its pretty low. When manufacturers are putting 3.42s, 3.06s, and the like in trucks. To get better MPG. 3.92 is a pretty low gear. Many people see a 3.73 as a good towing gear, and it is higher than 3.92.
I make gears. And we have some in the 2.55 range, and higher.
A 3.92 axle is a high "RATIO". I never said just gear. It's a high "ratio" gear but a shorter gear. You shouldn't read so fast that you miss most of the text. ;) I would love to have a 3.92 gear. Unfortunately Ford only offers the 3.73 gearing but does offer a 4.10 gearing for only the Ecoboost in FX4 trim. I'm really surprised that Dodge offered that gear with that trans having a very high "RATIO" 4.71:1 1st gear.
