Jan 12, 2018I got my 6.4 DRW back in November. So far we have 8,100 miles on it. Our TT averages about 8,500 lbs. The trailer was much heavier on the last trip since we were carrying a lot more junk. It was probably around 400 extra lbs, but I was in a rush and didn't run it across the scales.
The motor is plenty strong. I've had no problem accelerating up posted 10%-12% grades. I'm not roasting any tires, but I've activated the traction control plenty of times:B. My previous truck was a 08' 5.7 1500 so the engine is in the same generation as your old one. On paper there's not a huge amount of difference between the old Hemi and the 6.4. In real life there's a big difference. I wanted a 4.10 truck, but due to an ordering mistake I ended up with a 3.73. If you're going to be at top end of the truck's capacity then you definitely want 4.10s. I'm not swapping gears any time soon as the 3.73 works very well with the weights I'm hauling and pulling.
So far I've averaged 13.72 mpg for a mix of city and highway. Highway only tanks have come out to 16.4 mpg. Towing we're averaging 8.45 mpg driving mostly at 65 mph. Slowed down to 60 and we were hitting a solid 9. All of my mpgs are hand calculated.
