Buddy of mine and I test drove all 3 1500/150 trucks the same night a couple weeks ago. I though the Ford EcoBoost was great - the rest of the truck was dated. When it had the 5.0L it was just OK - nothing special IMO. Nothing really bad either. Ford had the biggest back seat in the Crew Cab out of the 3.
The GM was amazingly quiet but the Z71 we tested rode choppy. The rest of the truck (interior etc) was only ok, and a bit disappointing for being a new redesign. The powertrain was good. Again, nothing blew us away about it - other than the really quiet cabin.
We drove the RAM 1500 Limited with air suspension. The 8 speed auto and Hemi was the winner for him in the powertrain dept. The EcoBoost did impress me and was right up there though - more a chocolate/vanilla thing (which do you like). Buddy was not optimistic about the longevity of the EcoBoost (turbos etc). It was the rest of the truck that gave the RAM the top spot. The interior is class leading, and he liked the Hemi/8 speed best.
My buddy has sold his 04 Duramax and ordered a 2014 Ram 1500 Laramie.
Buddy is done with freezing while driving to work in his diesel, and sick of engine issues. GM paid for all 8 injectors (LB7) at 119,000 Km, and #2 and #7 went at 181,000 Km ($1700). Buddy said he had enough, and sold it.
