This dates back to the 90's when Ford had the issue with the Firestone tires that would fail on the Explorers. The focus was really on the 2001 and older Explorers. I did not realize the ban was still in effect. I rented a U-Haul trailer 10 years ago to tow behind my Chevy Lumina. The rental clerk said Luminas were fine, but she would not rent if I had a Ford Explorer.
The new Explorers are great, by the way. There are two people in my workplace who just purchased new 2015 Explorers - great vehicles.
