I would think that Ford adopted the changes Bosch had to make for VW when forced to by the NHTSA they got caught saying the CP4 was the shiznit best thing since sliced bread in the documents to NHTSA, then in their advertising for the European Polo diesel they openly stated that the square follower/piston Delphi pump solved the problems of the other round follower pump (CP4). Thats when VW quietly extended the warranty to 100K and shortly after that they went a revised Bosch system that uses different solenoid fired injectors (much cheaper than the Piezoelectric), they must atomize differently since they allow the pump to run at 24k max psi. There were some internal pump changes as well but I don't know the specifics.
