I normally don't take the time to post mesaages cause I am very busy but this topic I have probably more expertise than anyone.
I had a 2013 Ford F350 Platinium. LOVED It and it was the best truck I ever owned. I have a 45 ft voltage toy hauler. Being from Texas it is relatively flat here and the truck had no issues. We recently traveled up the 101 on the West Coast. In my travels I went though a set of front brakes and a little sluggish up the mountains but nothing to complain about. The truck did a great job!
After getting back from our enjoyable vacation I looked into the new F450. 40 more horsepower! 10% more torque, 4:30 gears for those mountains (and yes I know worse gas mileage but I didn't buy the truck for fuel economy) Jake Brake which would have saved my brake pads. A heavier chassis, beefier suspension, bigger brakes, etc...
So why not I had a platinum custom ordered. 1 HUGE problem. Streering wander. The truck was all over the road. could not keep her in the center of the lane. It was so bad it was unsafe to drive. She would drive off the shoulder if I hit a rut at high speeds unloaded. After being in the shop for quite some time with no luck from the dealer fixing the issue I replaced the continental tires with BFGs and it was 80% better.(FYI ford reimbursed me 1 months payment for being in the shop so long. But I still have to be at 10 and 2 driving down the road which is a headache. I have come to the conclusion it is the 19.5 wheels and the 14 ply tires on the 450 which is causing the problem. Verses the 12 ply 17 inch wheel and tires on the 350 which I had no issues.
350 was great should have simply upgraded to the new 350 with the increases hp and jake break. But before I give up on the 450 I have found a lot of post concerning the wandering issue so I am going to take it back to the dealer to see what we can do. I really want to keep the 450 simply because I like the 4:30 gears pulling down the road with the camper fully loaded it is great. Plus no one has one yet. If you have a smaller lighter camper no need for the 450simply go with the 350 I loved that truck :(.
