- N-TroubleExplorerAgree in the rediculous 1/2 ton prices. The Chevy with 6.2 stickered at $54k which is only $3k less than my 2012 GMC SLT CCSB Duramax. For only $3k more you sure get a lot more capable truck stepping up to the HD.
- MARK_VANDERBENTExplorerGM makes an amazing engine I think. I have a 5.3 with 300,000 miles and it still purrs like a kitten, and is very peppy. That 6.0 is very tried and true also.
- kw_00ExplorerMan if they go ahead and use direct injection on the 6.0 that should produce better figures. But the funny thing is when u compare the GM 6.0 Ford 6.2 and the Dodge 6.4. the 6.0 really holds its own well despite the lower numbers. Me thinks that the 6.0 is detuned from the factory. I am a big fan of the 6.0 and have been for years, It does pull very well even in the grades.. When they refresh that engine it will be interesting what GM does with it. So far they have had it proven to be one of the best ever made. getting back to topic... the new 1/2 tons are really doing well but the price tag....OUCH
- BenKExplorerIt is no longer just V6 vs V8 vs displacement...all changed with variable
displacement. As a V8 can run as a V4 or whatever displacement they
can attain
Forced fed is another factor
They are all now direct injected, but how they manage that will be
the factor is what matters
Turtle says it all and he is one of the resident experts for the track
component
Truck and more so for those who tow heavy requires different metrics
of an ICE, even an electric. Boils down to one main thing...duty cycle
A race ICE running WOT for hours has way less stresses than towing
heavy running WOT for hours. Maybe a flesh and blood analogy...a
person running flat out for a race has less stress than the same person
running flat out with a LARGE weight in tow
Goes to another thread and where my preference is for larger displacement
with variable displacement vs highly stressed small, forced fed and
NOT variable displacement - N-TroubleExplorerGM is probably afraid that if they released the 6.2 in HD trucks it would eat into Dmax sales.

The 6.2 really makes the 5.3 seem irrevelent. The mpg is similar and yet the 6.2L is just an incredibly strong preforming engine. However GM really limits the configuration that you can get that combo in. I am not sure why that is but they have no problem selling vehicles with that engine. My neighbor has 300k on one of his older 6.2L 1500s. He bought one of the first 2014's available with that motor. If your in the market for a 1500, I am not sure why you would opt for anything other than that engine. This reminds me of the 4.8 verse the 5.3 from years ago. I really wished that the 6.2L was available in the HD's.
If you saw how the blocks were designed and built you would understand why they are not a HD engine. Great race engine! HD truck engine......aaaaaaaaa not so much.
Perhaps what I should say is that I would like to have a gas engine in the HD's that performs like the 6.2L. I have been happy with what I see out of the 6.0, but you read and talk to guys with the 6.2 and you cant help but to want to graze on what certainly looks like a greener pasture. - TystevensExplorer

GM has really took over the 150/1500 market (power and fuel mileage) with the 6.2. Their payload is pretty good too. I would like the next test of the V6's to be compared to the V8's too. They are all doing great fuel mileage wise (v8 and v6) but it's interesting that Ford is building their V6's to compete with their V8's. Does Ford even have a base V6 now in their trucks?
The GM 6.2 does seem like a good engine. But I find it remarkable that pickuptrucks.com would specify that the trucks needed to have V8 engines. It is as though they do not understand what the Ecoboost is and how it is marketed and viewed by Ford. Next, they'll pair it against the economy V6 offerings. - Turtle_n_PeepsExplorer

I really like the 6.0 and realize that it's a HD engine, I have used mine for years with success. But with the 6.2 putting out some good numbers, it needs to be released in the HD trucks with an iron block...just saying
- ib516Explorer IIThe GM 6.2L is impressive. The best power and the best mpg.
