The OP carries a much lighter camper than I do plus doesn't tow the weight I put behind my truck. Surprisingly, I figured such a light weight would be easy to control with the gasser's compression (I was even considering this engine for my application). Because there are some differences in the 6.4 between pickup and chassis cab, I felt the trade-offs were too much to go away from diesel. The initial savings were tempting but some of these stories affirm my choice. This is not to say that the current gassers are weak - They really got my attention and I almost went back.
It sounds like you have very well matched combination for your setup but you need to get used driving a gasoline engine again and letting the automatic do it's thing. Until 2005, I pretty much was stuck on manuals and didn't like automatics making my gear choices - Once I learned how to drive an automatic and tell it when to shift using the throttle, we came to a truce (I still like rowing gears manually). I've come to terms that the automatic is superior for towing but can still get my fix by driving other manual vehicles I own.
Thank you for sharing your experiences.
