I learned a lot about my TorqShift transmission by using my ScanGauge II to watch for shifts and convertor lockup. I'm not sure how much information the 68RFE shares, but this might be a way indicating what the transmission is actually doing until you get a feel for it. My 5-speed 5R110 was really a 6-speed that used one gear exclusively in only very cold temperatures to get to operating temperature, but the difference between converter lockup and open felt like I had more gears and I wasn't sure whether I had downshifted or unlocked until I had the ScanGauge hooked up.
